It’s no wonder people fear sharks with titles such as this:
“Shark Attacks Cape Fishing Boat”
Combined with images taken from stock to illustrate the story:
In recent news, allegedly, a great white shark “attacked” an inflatable fishing boat off Strandfontein in the Western Cape.
There’s no doubt that the experience was “horrific”, as an estimated “7m long shark with its 5 to 6 cm long teeth stuck its head out of the water and took hold of the side of the boat".
The crew was fishing for smooth hound sharks, a common prey for great whites. As one of the passengers pulled the smooth hound onto the boat, the great white made its attack.
The article goes on to explain that during the summer months, the great whites get closer to fishermen as the seal population is reduced in order to feed on fish. They mention that this is the first time anything like this has happened.
"We see great whites quite often in this area, but they have never attacked our boat."
So we beg to ask, did the shark attack the fishing boat, or was it just doing what it naturally does and possibly got a fright of its own?
You be the judge. |
